OBJECTIVE

In this symposium, various biocomposites based on natural fibres and/or resin including those easily available in India and the UK, methods of manufacturing of such biocomposites, their mechanical characterization in terms of attributes such as strength, energy absorption, resistance to damage and corrosion, hardness, etc., and their applications to various domains including automotive, aerospace and biomedical engineering will be discussed. Novel and relatively unexplored opportunities offered by biocomposites particularly in making products more sustainable and ecofriendly will be dealt with. Attention will also be paid to the challenges to be overcome towards realization of large-scale applications of biocomposites in design. It is hoped that the symposium will be a springboard for future collaborative research between Indian and UK investigators in the truly exciting and promising area of biocomposites.

The present symposium is sponsored by the Royal Society, UK and the Department of Science and Technology (DST), India.
